Why Indian newsreaders talk in American accent?

I have been observing this for a while now, it seems that newsreaders for channels like Times Now and CNN IBN believe they are reading news for American audience rather then the Indian audience and try to present the news in American accent. Needless to say it doesn’t sound at all like the American accent and at the same time it manages to pisses me off and prompts me to change channels.

I mean come on people, you are Indian and you are reading news on an Indian news channel which is primarily meant for the Indian audience, then why the hell are you trying to speak in American accent?

I just don’t seem to get the logic behind it all and it’s not like all of them are first time readers. Few are ex newsreaders from NDTV and other news channels, who used to speak in proper Indian accent when they were there, yet decided to change their accent the moment they joined their new job.

As an Indian I am simply appalled by this behavior, having worked in a call center for an American process I used to speak in American accent while I was talking to the American clients, yet spoke to my friend in the normal accent. The same was true for most of my co workers as well, barring a few who thought they were reincarnation of a rapper born in Detroit. Then why is it that these newsreaders try to so hard to talk in this manner?

Is it the news channels who think that newsreaders speaking in a funny accent would entice people to watch other wise boring and repetitive news?

Or is it the newsreaders doing it to appear cool?

Or is it because these newsreaders know they are full of hot air and any day they will be left without a job and thus are trying to get used to American accent to ensure they can at least secure a job in a third grade call center when the news channel throws them out?

What ever the reason, I for one am totally against such tactics and would like nothing batter then to stop these buffoons from making a mockery of India and Indians. After all if a foreigner sees these newsreaders what impression would he/she get of India?

A country with a wealth of culture, tradition, history or a third world country trying to make a quick buck by mimicking the accent of Americans?
