Finding news that you can use

Gone are the days when one use to wake up in the morning and use to flip through newspapers to search for news, which actually mattered to us. After all, apart from the senior citizens, no one actually has the time and the energy to go through the whole newspaper, I know I don’t.

Add to this, I have subscribed to the RSS feeds of over a dozen blogs that I go through each day, not to mention the numerous forums I participate in and at the same time work on different projects. With such an information overload, I have almost stopped reading newspapers and started reading news online. But at times it gets a bit tiring, hopping from one site to another or Googling for news.

But there is light at the end of tunnel, enter NewsTin, a multilingual news search engine, which lets you keep track of news that you find interesting.

For instance, being a biker I am interested in what is happening in the world of motorcycles. Now instead of scanning through various motorcycle sites, I can simply add motorcycle category to my list of topics and get my daily dose of news about motorcycles. Though to truly personalize the news topics, you can create your own custom topics and use them in conjunction with each other using AND or OR operators. Like for instance, I have created a custom topic called, Motorcycles and India, which provides me with motorcycle news from India. To tell you the truth, it is the ability to create custom topics that sets NewsTin apart from the rest of the news syndication sites and I found it quite useful.

However there are still a few chinks in its armor, for instance I can not create an RSS feed for a custom topic and neither can I share it with my friends, something which I feel NewsTin should implement soon.

Some thing which I found funny was, while browsing India category, I could see 30 states and union territories listed as subcategories but Delhi was nowhere to be found, which is kind of ironic since it is the capital of India and should have been present in the list. In any case, I have sent an email feedback to them, informing them of this matter as well as requesting them to add the ability to have RSS feeds and sharing option for custom created topics.
