Motorcycle touring is safer than traveling in a taxi or a bus!
Ever so often I come across people who are surprised and to a point horrified by the fact that I travel on my motorcycle to far off places. Usually it is followed by a lecture on how motorcycles are unsafe and I should really be using a taxi/bus to travel and blah blah blah.
While it used to annoy me in the beginning, lately it has started to amaze me.
I am amazed by the fact, that majority of the people would rather put their lives in the hands of an uneducated and usually drunk/high driver, rather than step up and take control of it themselves. After all, the moment you sit inside a taxi or a bus, you are automatically placing your trust on an individual that you didn’t even knew, couple of minutes back.
While in my case it is me who is in charge and it is me, who is responsible for my life and well being. I know when to push myself and when to back off, I know my limits and I know to a certain degree what my reaction would be to a particular situation.
The fact is I have the guts to take responsibility for my own actions, rather than hoping that the bozo on wheels who just emptied that bottle of liquor, would take me safely to my destination.
I would rather die with the knowledge that I did my best to survive than die knowing that if it wasn’t for the maniac on wheels, I would be having dinner with my family!
