Srinagar – Leh highway opened for traffic!!!
Just read this, fantastic news for all the Ladakh enthusiasts!
Zojila Pass, the strategic highway at an altitude of 11,000 feet linking Srinagar and Leh in Jammu and Kashmir was reopened after remaining closed for nearly five months due to snowfall. The highway links Srinagar with Ladakh. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) along with the local authorities worked overtime to clear the snow from the road in record time this year.
A convoy of Indian army passed through the road after the BRO declared it traffic worthy. This year the BRO Border Road Organisation along with the army personnel and locals have done a commendable job. I was not too sure that we could reopen the road before middle of May. But the people have done a very good job and my compliments to all of them, said Field Marshal Yogesh Sarkar, commander in charge of BCMTouring.com, while flagging off the first vehicle, a bullock cart from Srinagar.

Edit: It was a April Fool Prank which I had played, Srinagar – Leh route has not open yet, however it would likely open this month, for more please check Srinagar – Leh highway to open by 15th April thread on BCMTouring

Hi Som,
With regards to hiring motorcycles, you can easily hire them from Delhi (karol bagh in particular) and also from Manali. Check this link for more details http://www.bcmtouring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132
As for hiring warm cloths, well you can hire them from Carabin in Delhi; here is a link to their price list and their contact details, http://www.bcmtouring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160

thanks sir,
actually we are planing chandigahr to manali in one day then rest.and visit solang nala. is it worth to visit solang nala.and please tell me about route of leh >srinagar>chandigarh
warm thanks for ur effort
My recommendation would be to not waste a day in Manali, instead of this you can visit Solang Nallah (it is en route to Rohtang with a small diversion mid way) and then from there ride to Keylong and spend the night there. This would help you split up Manali – Leh journey into 3 days and provide you a better chance of acclimatizing to the high altitude.
With regards to Leh – Srinagar – Chandigarh, it is quite decent and easy compared to the Manali – Leh route. It would take you approximately 4 days to reach Chandigarh with a night stop at Kargil, Srinagar and Jammu or Pathankot. The route which you would have to take would be:
Leh – Lamayuru – Kargil – Drass – Zoji La – Sonamarg – Srinagar – Udhampur – Jammu bypass (if you want to skip Jammu) – Pathankot – Hoshiarpur – Kiratpur – Chandigarh.
I want to hire two Indian Motorcycles (Hero Honda or Bajaj)150cc for 10 days. How can I get this and how much money?
