Bardahl engine oil additive for motorcycles
Bardahl engine oil additive for motorcycles has been doing rounds in Bajaj Auto Service Centers for some time now. Earlier it used to be recommended (read forced upon) by a few individual service centers, however now it seems that Bajaj Auto has started recommending it and thus it is now being used in almost all of the Bajaj Auto Service Centers in National Capital Region.
What is Bardahl engine oil additive and how does it help our motorcycles?
This is one question that has been doing rounds in my head and so far I can not make out what it is and how it works and how it would benefit motorcycles. After all majority of the car engine oil additives work by creating a thin layer of film over engine components and thus reducing friction and improving efficiency.
However in case of our motorcycles with integrated gearbox, clutch plates are also immersed in engine oil. If the motorcycle engine oil additive works in the similar manner as those meant for cars, then it would lead to clutch slippage and would actually lower efficiency and would lead to clutch plates wearing off early on.
So far I haven’t got the answer for this, I have written to Bardahl’s official distributor in India and would also be contacting Bajaj Auto, furthermore I have finally changed to Bardahl engine oil additive mixed engine oil this time and would be closely observing how my motorcycle reacts to it and whether it is good or bad.
Keep watching this space and as I try to find the answer to this question.

Hi Mr. Sarkar,
I have a 1978 kz400 then tends to burn oil when it’s at operating temperature. I believe it’s coming from around the pistons. Since I know this problem happens only when the engine oil is thinned because of the heat, I was looking into using some Bardahl “NO SMOKE” oil treatment. I called the Bardahl 1-888 number and there tech staff said it’s okay to use this product in my machine. The direction from them is 2 oz per quart. My question to you is: Do you think I should bother with this treatment or leave things the way they are?
Thanks,
Dexter
Dexter have you tried thicker grade oil (20w50 normally does the trick) and checked whether or not piston rings are fine?
Can’t really comment on No Smoke as I haven’t yet used it. But if your bike is consuming oil due to heating excessively, then it might be a better idea to look for the reason behind the overheating issue (most likely due to being run lean).
