Looking back at 2008

In less than 15 and a half hours, 2008 will come to an end, and we will be ushering in 2009. A new year, brimming with endless new possibilities. However before we usher in a new year, it is time to reflect on what I did in 2008 and how will I remember it in years to come.

2008 began on a somber note, with my mother trying hard to recover from multiple heart attacks she suffered in 2007. Her further deteriorating health condition was the primary reason why I decided to scale back on traveling, and only did 5 trips in the whole year (Vaishno Devi, Crazy Himalayan ride, Sach Pass and Dalhousie, Pushkar and Sariska).

While the trips lacked in numbers, they more than made it up in sheer ferocity. Whether it was the 18 hour trek to Vaishno Devi, or the 22 hour and 50 minute day ride to Himachal, or for that matter, crossing the formidable Sach Pass twice in the span of two days while getting drenched to the core. Trips this year were tougher than what I had ever experienced before.

While the trips were quite adventurous and tough, I also saw my photography skills improve drastically, with the purchase of a new camera and a determined effort towards improving my photography skills. Towards this purpose, trip to Sach Pass and Dalhousie, Pushkar and Red Fort were extremely rewarding.

Professionally, financially and materialistically, 2008 was also good for me as I saw my business grow at a fast pace, accompanied by improved financial and materialistic wealth.

However, I’ll always remember 2008 as a year, when my entire family came together to face a family crisis (which sadly isn’t over yet) and we showed each other, for each of us, family is the most important thing in the world.

And that to me is something worth remembering…
