Bought an AGV helmet

Today I decided to replace me aging helmet and bought a new MPA-AGV FVS helmet.

The Studd helmet it replaces was originally bought for only a few months as I was short on cash and had to head out for a ride, but being so light and comfortable, it managed to stay with me for almost three years.

Any ways, here is the new AGV helmet I bought today, for Rs. 2245.

  2. Hello Naval, according to fellow BCMTian Amit, you can buy AGV helmets at
AA Helmets near Oshiwara bus depot which stocks AGV, snell, cross etc. helmets. You can also get th AGV helmets from Premjis in Mumbai.

  3. Hi Yogesh,
First off, thanks for posting consistently helpful information on IndiaMike.com. If possible I’d like to pick your brains a bit more.

I’m a Londoner who’s coming to Delhi on March 6th. My plan is to rent a bike (Pulsar) and buzz around Rajasthan for about 5 weeks, ending up in Diu for a week/10 days or so.

I know you’ve mentioned this in previous blogs, but wonder if you know know any reliable shops around Korel Bagh to rent out decent Pulsar bikes for around 30 days?

Also, what kind of heat will i be dealing with when riding through the plains of Rajasthan? Will an open face helmet be better for keeping cool?

Are there any restrictions on moving from one state to another with a rented bike?

Finally, I have a UK driving license (car, not bike license) – will this be enough to rent a bike or will i need extra documentation?

Apols if this is the incorrect area to post this comment, not too hot with the blogging thing yet.

Thanks for your time – regards,
    Jimmy

  4. Hello Jimmy,

As far as I have seen, not many renters here stock Pulsars/Karizmas so you would just have to go to Karol Bagh and check whether someone has one available for rent. There is one guy that a friend of mine gets his bike serviced from, who rents out modern bikes, not sure about Pulsars though, his phone number is listed here.

For 30 days, renters might be willing to buy you a bike, which they would promise to buy back at the end of the trip. So check how much you will be paying on rent and how much a second hand bike would cost and then compare the prices.

However with this, there is always the risk of the renter not accepting to take the bike back or trying to buy it at a lower than previously agreed price.

There is no problem with moving from one state to another on a rented motorcycle, however make sure you tell the cops (if they ask) that you borrowed the motorcycle from a friend, rather than saying it is rented. Because rented bikes need to be commercially registered, while majority of the motorcycle on rent here are privately registered.

Don’t get an open face helmet; it is not as safe as full face helmets. Though if you would still like to have an open face helmet, then buy a Ninja helmet, it is basically a modular helmet and its front area can be raised. If you already have something similar back home, bring it here, it would likely have more protection than majority of the helmets available here.

It would be hot but tolerable by the end of March (from my perspective).

Oh yes, you need to have an International Driving Permit for motorcycles, in order to legally ride a motorcycle in India. You can get that from your licensing authority in your country.

  5. Hi Yogesh,
Many thanks for your quick response and advice. I will try my luck and hopefully pick up a pulsar for my duration.

    Regards,
    Jimmy

  6. Glad to be of help :)

  7. Thanks a lot for the quick response. Could u plz tell me where can I find AGV helmets and other accessories in delhi.

  8. Karol Bagh and in Particular the Nai wallah market. Once there, check out Mahalaxmi and Chopra, they stock helmets and riding gear.

  9. Hi Yogi,
I own a pulsar 220. I am from coimbatore. could you suggest a place to get riding gear, esp. leather jackets, gloves and an AGV helmet. it will be ok if you suggest Chennai or Bangalore.

  10. hiii
I am Sudipto frm KOLKATA. I want to get an AGV helmet can you get me some phone number in MUMBAi or PUNE.

  11. Hi Yogesh

Can you suggest a place in Delhi to buy leather jackets.

    Ones like this :

  12. Asura you can try Palika Market, however if you are looking for proper riding jackets, then check out KRP and Chopra Helmets.

  13. Does Chopra have the jackets like shown in the picture. What I am looking for is a ‘cruiser’ jacket if you can call it that. You know ,like the ones you see riders riding Harleys wear.

  14. Normally they don’t, but it won’t hurt to check them out. Alternatively you can visit Punk at Center Stage Mall and Metal at Vasant Vihar Shopping Complex. They will likely have jackets like that, but there wouldn’t be any protection in them.

  15. Thanks for the info.
However I hope Punk and metal aren’t too expensive.

Also I only have one day in Delhi and I am visiting for the first time.
So I have decided to limit myself to Karol Bagh(for Chopra), palika,CP .

I intend to buy a couple of helmets, gloves,a jacket, boots and balaclavas.

  16. Both of them are a tad on the expensive side.

As for Karol Bagh, check out Mahalaxmi and Chopra, both of them stock good variety of helmet and other bike accessories.

  17. Hi Yogesh

I got the helmets. Two of them. One is an open face one ….MRC company. It is not certified but I found the maker’s website-a Chinese one.

The other is an Aris helmet ..a full face modular one with air vents and sunglass as well. Its ECE certified.

I got both from Mahaluxmi. However I went to Chopra first but he didn’t have anything I wanted. It was a small crowded shop and the salesman was really pissing me off.He showed me the AGVs but nothing that could go well with my bullet.

  18. Congrats on the purchase.

Strange issue with Chopra, I usually found their attitude better than anybody else, even though it is a small shop and they do not bargain.

  19. Thanks

However I still haven’t found a jacket.I couldn’t go to metal/punk as time was short.I did go to adventure 18 but they didn’t have the k2k jacket which I wanted to buy.I bought a millet backpack,a quechua fleece , a balaclava and gloves instead.

Chopra was out of stock on jackets.Mahaluxmi showed some decent ones .One was a Duhan touring jacket which was good but he wanted 6k.I think that was a bit too much.

Can you suggest someplace to buy gear in Chandigarh? Now I have to buy a jacket and good riding boots which can be used elsewhere too.(Not just riding)

  20. I’ll check with fellow BCMTians from Chandigarh and let you know.

  21. Yeah.I am going to Chandigarh tomorrow. So I would appreciate any suggestion before that.

  22. Checked with my friends, there is no shop in Chandigarh which sells riding gear.

  23. Thats disappointing.Anyways thanks for all your help Yogi.

BTW Now Iam thinking of getting something from the US.Do you think KMD is a good option?
