Leh-Ladakh, My Thoughts

Hi Yogesh,
You seem to be an avid traveller. My passion for travel and seeing new places started materialising only last year, when i just took off for Sikkim for a week. This year, I’m following it up with 2 weeks in the third week of September onwards to Ladakh. Unlike you, I can’t drive or bike it up to Ladakh coz I’ll be travelling all the way from Bangalore to Delhi, and then to Leh. Your one hellava lucky guy.
Was wondering what the weather will be like there. And how much accomodation might cost me per day. I’d love to go rafting too. Since you’ve been there before, can you suggest anything ???
Hi Varun, first off all thanks for the compliment. As for weather in ladakh, well it is quite unpredictable especially towards the end of September. While we were there we encountered rain in Nubra Valley, snow at Khardung La and Chang La and snow blizzard near pangong tso. All this happened in the second week of September last year, however I did see another guy’s photo which he took at Khardung la in October last year and there was no sign of snow! So it all depends on luck, however you can expect snow and passes closing for a brief period.
As for accommodation, it really depends on what you want. We got a room in Leh which costed Rs.200 a night and it was quite good. In nubra as well we got a room for Rs.200 and at Tanksey/tangste near pangong tso we got a cottage for Rs.500 which had two bedrooms. All I can say is, do a bit of hunting and you will find what you are looking for.
As for rafting, well didn’t do that so not in a position to comment on it. In case you have any more queries then let me know.
