Movie review: Jodha Akbar

Over the weekend, I finally managed to watch Jodha – Akbar. A movie that has been shrouded in the veil of controversy, even before its release. In fact Jodha – Akbar wasn’t allowed to be screened in Rajasthan, due to the fact that Jodha was actually the daughter in law of King Akbar and not his wife, as shown in this movie.

In my opinion, this could have easily been fixed by dubbing over all the places where Jodha’s name was mentioned and by changing film’s name, which I guess wasn’t a priority for Ashutosh Gowariker and like the saying goes, there no such thing as bad press.

Anyways, coming back to the movie, once you get over the historical glitch part, it is a really well made movie to watch. Sets are superb and performance of the entire cast is fabulous. However it is the chemistry between Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan that really manages to captivate the audience, of course it is helped to a great extent by the fact, Aishwarya Rai is looking really hot in this movie.

The only sore point of the movie is the pathetic fight scenes and apparent lack of direction in them. Whether it’s the fight scene between Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan which fails miserably to live up to the expectation set by the fight scene between Catharine Zeta Jones and Antonia Banderas (Mask of Zorro) which it tries to emulate or the final fight scene which appears to be inspired by the fantastic fight scene between Brad Pitt and Eric Bana (Troy). But the good part is, during the fight scene of Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai looks really cute and sexy.

Overall it is a nice package and definitely worth watching (did I mention Aishwarya Rai looks really hot), here is a small trailer of the movie, if you haven’t seen it yet, then do that ASAP!
