Border Roads Organization (BRO) is working over time to open the Rohtang pass (gateway to Lahaul and Manali – Leh highway) by 1st of May 2009.
While BRO was earlier hoping to open Rohtang Jot by middle of April, fresh snowfall had hampered these efforts and BRO was forced to retrieve its equipment and personals from Rani Nallah.
Hopefully with weather remaining hot, BRO would be able to keep its promise and open the Manali – Leh traffic for vehicular traffic soon.
With Rohtang pass remaining under snow, Border Roads Organisation officials are working overtime to open the road, which is gateway to Lahual and Spiti district, before Lok Sabha polls slated for May 13.
“Snow clearing work is going on a war-footing and we hope to open Rohtang Pass located at an altitude of 13050 feet by May one,” S K Doon, BRO 7 RCC commander, who is engaged in the task, told PTI on Tuesday.
