Manali – Leh highway has just been officially declared open for all types of traffic and with it the Ladakh 2009 Travel season has also just begun.
The strategic Manali-Leh National Highway 21 re-opened for vehicular traffic Thursday after remaining closed for six months. The highway was closed in mid-December due to heavy snowfall.
“The crucial 475 km Manali-Leh highway reopened for the traffic this (Thursday) morning,†said S.K. Doon, commander of the 38 Task Force of the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) – a wing of the Border Roads Organisation that maintains the highway.
“All types of vehicles can now ply on the highway,†Doon told IANS.

Though the complete infrastructure (camps at Sarchu and Pang) would take some time setting up, so for motorcycle travelers it is best to wait for a few days or do Srinagar – Leh highway while going to Ladakh and take the Manali – Leh highway while coming back.
For car and taxi travelers willing to do Keylong/Jispa/Darcha – Leh in a single day, there shouldn’t really be any problem.

It was said in the BCM touring that Manali – Leh high way is opened from 7.6.2010. But four of my friends are stranding in Keylong and they could not go beyound due to heavy snow and ice in the dharcha region. They are told nearing Baralacha is not at all possible for the next seven days. People are not informing this for the real travel lovers and for those who indulged in travelling in such a difficult routes
Have you even gone through the thread on BCMTouring? It is being updated each day with live feeds from those on the ground and first post of the thread, as usual reflects the exact status of the road and did so correctly, even when the official website of Leh was falsely showing the road as open, while it wasn’t!
If even all this is not enough for you and your friends or you can not take the pain of going through the updates yourself, then I am afraid, neither I, nor anyone else can help!
Oh yes, the post that you just replied to, was published in 2009!
