Dussehra 2009

On Monday I went to Subhash Nagar Ramlila ground to watch the Dussehra celebrations.

Hindu festival of Dussehra, signifies victory of good (Lord Ram) over evil (Ravana) and is also known as Vijayadasami. 9 days preceding to the Dussehra are known as Navratras and during these days, Ramlila (reenactment of Ramayana) is held in majority of India. On the Dussehra i.e. 10th day, the Ramlila ends with the vadh (killing) of Ravana and the effigy of Ravana is burnt to celebrate the occasion.

Here are few of the photographs and videos of Dussehra, which I managed to capture through my lens.

Before the effigy of Ravana was burnt, there was a nice display of fireworks, here are some of the photographs and video of the firework display.

Here are three long exposure shots I took of the fireworks display and are my personal favorite from this outing.

Finally, here is the video of Ravan Dahan i.e. burning of the effigy of Ravana.

Day ended with me gorging on some delicious jalebis (sweets). Overall all a fun outing, though not as peaceful as the Durgapuja outing (because of large crowd), but still fun nonetheless.
