Ladakh Winter Trip, Accommodation

In winter, majority of the hotels and guest houses in Ladakh are closed, since a. there aren’t many tourists around and b. many of them are actually run by people from outside Leh/Ladakh. So finding a suitable place to crash is important, more so as one hopes to get a comfortable place with hopefully, some form of heating, to provide an escape from the bitter cold outside.

As far as accommodation in Leh is concerned, I had zeroed in on the Shanti Guest House earlier on and have already spoken with the owners, about room, pricing and amenities available.

With the third variance of my earlier posted itinerary for winter trip to Ladakh becoming my favorite, the only place I will hopefully require accommodation is at Hanle and a great place to stay there is at the guest house of Indian Astronomical Observatory. And thanks to the kind and wonderful officials at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, I have just received confirmation of the same and it looks like, my dream of visiting the highest Astronomical Observatory in India, is about to come true and that too with a chance to shoot star trails nearby.

With flight tickets and accommodation booked, driver in Ladakh almost finalized, a lot of burden has been lifted from my shoulders and I can now concentrate on getting rest of the smaller things in place and ready for my winter trip to Ladakh, which is now only 13 days away!
