Canon 5D Mark III vs. Nikon D800

DigitalRev recently posted a very interesting comparison video of Canon 5D Mark III with that of Nikon D800 and the thing which was particularly interesting to see in that video was the fact that even though Nikon D800 clearly has a lot more pixel stuffed into its similar sized sensor, it managed to not only keep up with the Canon 5D Mark III, but also ended up producing a lot more details and sharper images!

What hit me the most was the fact that Canon 5D Mark III seems to be smudging the details a lot more at high ISO than the Nikon D800 and noise at times can be tolerated at times or even removed from the image during post processing, lack of details cannot be compensated.

This sort of puts me in a dilemma; because although I have already said that Canon 5D Mark III came up with almost all that I had wished for, Nikon D800 just seems to offer a lot more!

Things get further complicated due to the fact that although I have three lenses, neither of them are something I would like to keep and use with a full frame body (including Canon 50mm f1.8 II)!

Add to this, Nikon D800 is around Rs. 60,000 cheaper than the Canon 5D Mark III and that frankly speaking is no small amount, even though at the end of the day, most of the high quality Nikkor Lenses are actually more expensive than the Canon L series and the wonderful 70-200L f4 IS is nowhere to be found in the Nikon brochure.

While battle these things out in my head, you guys better go ahead and watch the Canon 5D Mark III and Nikon D800 comparison video.

Oh yes, do let me know your thoughts on which camera out of the two you like more and why, it might just end up helping me make a decision.
