Great news for all those planning to head to Ladakh as soon as possible, BRO has managed to reopen Srinagar – Leh Highway today, in a record time. Even though today was the first day, 350 vehicles managed to crossed the mighty Zoji La today (100 from Leh side and 250 from Srinagar side).
While some might argue that the road is in terrible state at the moment and would likely close down for a few days due to snowfall or snow slide, fact remains that this is a crucial highway not only for locals and tourists, but also for the Indian Army, which faces not only Pakistan, but also China in this high altitude conflict zone. And sooner the Srinagar – Leh Highway reopens for traffic, more time BRO will have to stabilize it, before the summer rush of tourist and commercial vehicles come.
So let’s take this moment to say thanks to the brave men, who risk life and limbs to keep world’s most dangerous roads open for us tourists to enjoy.
Thank you BRO :).

Good news indeed! A Google+ friend of mine, Sushil Pingua, is there on his bike, waiting to make the crossing from Srinagar to Leh. And I am a truly silly goose: he invited me to join him in Srinagar and do the trip with him but I I could not for scheduling reasons. But I was thinking of all your words and pictures, Yogesh, and getting close to quitting everything and going…!
Jónico, he is already in Ladakh and is likely in Nubra Valley today.
As for your trip, I say, go for it, now!
