I have been trying out Bing Search for the past week as a weekly experiment on whether or not it has become a viable alternative to Google Search.
Well it has been over a week and during the week, only on a handful of occasions I felt the need to switch to Google i.e. Bing performed satisfactorily most of the time. That being said, I somehow felt that the quality of the results returned wasn’t as great as Google.
Add to that, the sheer number of options available in Google when it comes to search and the fact that I am just used to its interface, made me rethink the whole situation and in the end I decided to go back to Google.
However it is good to see that a search engine which I once used to use regularly (MSN back then) several years ago, has finally improved enough to somewhat satisfy my searching needs.
Though Bing still has a long way to go, especially when it comes to indexing the entire web, which based on my test results is still far-far behind that of Google eg. large websites with over 100,000 pages in Google have only 20,000-25,000 in Bing, which thus limits the quality and quantity of the search result Bing returns.
Having said that, Bing does seems to be doing a better job of indexing and ranking new content better than Google and so if one is looking for latest results for a search term, Bing ends up providing better results than Google.
Hopefully, I will be able to revisit this experiment a year or so down the line and by then, Bing would be able to make a compelling enough case for me to finally switch to it permanently.
