The Great Domestic Tourism Bazaar 2013

Yesterday I went to The Great Domestic Tourism Bazaar 2013, a 2 day travel exhibition organized by FICCI, Ministry of Tourism and Government of India.

Great Domestic Tourism Bazaar was held at K. K. Birla Auditorium, which is located inside the same complex as FICCI’s Headquarter on Tansen Marg, which also happens to house National Museum of Natural History, which I visited after attending this exhibition.

While the exhibition itself was smaller than what I had expected it to be, it was nicely organized and saw participation from not only travel companies and hotels, but also state tourism boards from Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh etc..

What interested me the most was PCP’s Terra Motor Car booth, which although didn’t feature the actual vehicle (which I would have loved to see in person), but did feature details of this caravan, based on Mahindra’s Genio platform.

According to the manufacturer, this motorhome cum office van is made on Mahindra’s Genio Pickup with a frame made of fiberglass, while the interior materials are imported from Europe and non-formalin decoration wood is imported from New Zealand. When converted into bedroom, Terra can house 5 people, while 7 people (including driver) can travel in it in the normal seating arrangement.

PCP Terra also features Air Conditioner, Heater, Refrigerator, Microwave, Wash room, Shower, Shelves (Shoes, Jackets, Night Wear) and special design drawers for kitchen utensils, stereo and multimedia system (TV, radio, DVD player, mp3 player). One can also monitor level of water and freshwater reserve and Terra also features a reverse camera (display mounted on front dashboard) to assist the driver reverse the vehicle.

While this luxurious motor home is priced quite steeply at 40 lakh Rupees and out of reach of many travelers, it can also be rented from PCP at the cost of Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 per day.

Here is the promotional video of PCP Terra Motor Car, which feels a little funny to me, but I guess caters to the demographic of the cliental PCP is trying to target with this motorhome. Video removed, based on the request of video creator.

Needless to say, I am quite impressed by this motorcar, which I feel can be a perfect travel companion for road trip enthusiasts and shouldn’t be as difficult to manage as motorhomes based on mini-bus platforms. Now if only one could mount an off road motorcycle at the rear of PCP Terra…
