ON Gold Standard 100% Whey is one of the most well-known and highly rated protein powders in the world. I had been thinking about buying it for a while now, however I usually resisted the temptation, based on the fact that it was costlier than EAS 100% Whey.
I finally bought ON Gold Standard Whey last month, why?
Because even though ON is costlier than EAS (around Rs. 1,270 more for 5lbs container(based on current price here and here)), it also has higher concentration of protein and thus, more servings per box. In fact if you do the math, then a serving of EAS 100% Whey comes out to be around Rs. 93 and provides 26gms of protein. While a serving of ON Gold Standard costs around Rs. 89 and provides 24gm of protein.
So in a way, ON Gold Standard 100% Whey is actually cheaper than the whey protein powder I was using and is also better quality protein powder and has fewer calories!
This is due to the fact that ON Gold Standard is made up of Whey Protein Isolates, Whey Concentrate and Hydrolyzed Isolates. While EAS 100% Whey is made up of Whey Protein Concentrate, Soy Lecithin and Whey Protein Isolate. Furthermore, while ON has only 120kcals per serving, while EAS has 150kcals i.e. great for those trying to cut back on carbs.
Since ON Gold Standard 100% Whey has fewer carbs, less fat and calories, it is also less fulfilling. So if you are planning to drink your protein powder in water, then keep in mind that it won’t likely replace a meal, unless you eat something with it or mix it in milk (which is what I do).
I also get the feeling that Gold Standard is easier to digest than other whey protein powders I have used and while it isn’t as tasty as EAS 100% Whey (due to less sugar), it is surely a superior option. It is also far easier to mix in water than other whey protein powders I have used and in milk too, it mixes easily.
EAS 100% Whey has the advantage of having couple of grams of extra protein and slightly more BCAAs and Glutamic + Glutamine per serving than ON Gold Standard 100% Whey. There are also far more deals and discounts available on EAS 100% Whey from time to time, while ON is rarely on sale (I guess due to its popularity). So for those on a limited budget, this might just be reason enough to go for EAS 100% Whey, time and time again.
Having said this, I am now a big fan of ON Gold Standard 100% Whey and would likely keep buying it on a regular basis, unless I find something even better for similar or better price.
