I recently bought SanDisk Ultra 64GB USB 3 Pen Drive. Although I bought it for my Portable Photo Backup System, which utilizes USB 2 and does not need fast speed. I figured that the faster speed will help while transferring files at home or just in case I wish to use this Pen Drive for a daily backup system for important documents on my computer.
SanDisk Ultra Pen Drive is a light and plasticky drive and while it may not appeal aesthetically, to many people, it does get the job done. In fact for Rs. 1723 I paid for this drive (bought from ebay and price has gone up slightly since then), it is almost as cheap as a USB 2 64GB pen drive!
However write and read speeds are anything but normal. Here is the read and write speed performance of SanDisk Ultra, while transferring a 3.98GB MOV file.
Next I copied a 3.19GB folder to and from the drive, which contained 151 RAW and JPEG Files.
In order to ensure that my computer wasn’t a bottle neck in this test, I used my Corsair Force 3 SSD to run this file transfer test. Pen Drive was connected to the front USB 3 port on my Cooler Master K281 case.
I also used USB Flash Benchmark from usbflashspeed.com to run a synthetic benchmark on this drive and this is the result I got.
Needless to say, I am quite impressed by speed and performance of SanDisk Ultra 64GB Pen Drive and with a free photo rescue and encryption software bundled with this drive, it is a great VFM for anyone looking to buy a large capacity Pen Drive, which is neither a slouch nor so expensive as to make you think twice about buying it!
A big thumb up for SanDisk, who remain my favorite SD Card/Pen Drive manufacturer.
