One of the biggest issues for the locals and tourists alike in Ladakh is lack of public transport. In order to fix that shortcoming, the Leh District Administration has decided to bolster the public transport in and around Leh with the launch of new bus services, including one to the Leh Airport.
Even though there were buses running earlier as well and you could hire a taxi or hitch a ride in a passing vehicle like numerous locals do on a regular basis, neither of these options were cheap or convenient.
However, now with regular buses leaving for places like Shey, Thiksey, Hemis, Spituk, Phyang, Tsemo Gompa and the Leh Airport, traveling in Ladakh on a budget is sure to get easier and more convenient.
Here is the bus schedule.
Apart from these, there are regular buses to places like Nubra Valley, Tangste (30km before Pangong Tso), Tso Moriri and even Hanle. And even the internal bus service of Nubra Valley is quite strong. Making it entirely possible for you to explore Ladakh, without spending on a taxi. Even though traveling in a taxi is more convenient, faster and allows you to stop more often for photography and sightseeing.
These buses have started running now, while the Srinagar – Leh, and Manali – Leh bus service will start running once the road reopens for vehicular traffic.
Happy travel :).
