I visited Garage Inc. located in the Hauz Khas Village this Sunday, after a gap of almost one and a half years. There was a time, I was a regular here and even organized a reunion here for my colleagues from Wipro.
Yet, walking in on Sunday evening I wasn’t sure if it was still the same place I used to adore a year and a half ago.
The moment I stepped in, I found nothing had changed. Still the same ole cozy ambiance, warm greetings by the staff (they were happy to see me again) and the delicious food and fun karaoke night I used to love.
Thursday and Sundays are karaoke nights (English) and some of the singers who come here on a regular basis are superb. In fact, the real fun of karaoke night at Garage (at least for me) is the fact that you get to hear some really good songs (sung by good singers) which you might have never heard or had long forgotten eg. My Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus.
Since the IPL season is on, they had one projector showing the lyrics on the songs for karaoke and on the other side of the restaurant, another projector was showing the game (without sound.) And that kept karaoke and cricket fans happy (they have done similar arrangement for football games as well.)
I have always liked the service at Garage, it is fast and prompt. Though unless you’re a regular here or reserve your table in advance, finding one after 9 pm is next to impossible with plenty of regulars flocking in after 9:30 pm. In fact, even though rest of HKV seemed like but a remnant of its past, Garage Inc. seems to be doing much better.
On Sunday I ordered Hot Sauce Chicken Wings, and they were well cooked with just the right amount of spice and salt. In fact, food is something that I have always loved about Garage, be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian cuisine and their burgers are finger licking delicious!
When it came to drinks, I was disappointed by the fact they only had Heniken and Mahou, though there was a much wider variety of whiskey, vodka and wine was available.
I decided to order Heniken pint (330 ml), which was priced at Rs. 330 plus taxes. However, since there is always a 1+1 offer here, I ended up paying Rs. 1320 plus taxes for 8 pints.
Even though this isn’t as cheap as some of the other bars, it isn’t too expensive and the crowd (majority of the crowd is North-Eastern and Ladakhi here) and the ambiance is much better than what you would find at budget-friendly bars. Having said that, it can get crowded here in the weekends, though the crowd is well behaved, even though stags are allowed without cover charge.
At the end of the day, I had quite a good time at Garage Inc. and can’t wait to go back there again.
Total bill for Hot Sauce Chicken Wings and 8 pints of Heineken came out to be Rs. 2141, inclusive of all taxes and 10% service charge.
