Colonel’s Dacha at Kasol, Hotel Review

Colonel’s Dacha at Kasol, that’s the first place that came to my mind when our trip to Kasol was finalized and we started looking for hotels. After all, I had seen the photos of it multiple times in Col. Raina’s profile and had fallen in love with it.

Colonel’s Dacha is located towards the end of Village Suma Ropa, just 3 km before the Kasol town. Making it an idyllic stay, away from the hustles and bustle of Kasol.

Since I was traveling along with 4 friends, we chose to stay at the Wooden Room on the first floor, while another 3 other friends of ours first took the room downstairs and then shifted to Attic Room the next day (on the first day Attic Room wasn’t available.)

The Wooden Room on the first floor had 1x King Size Bed, 1x Queen Size Bed and a Diwan. Making it a perfect stay for the 5 of us, though the room had enough space to accommodate a few more people.

There was a room heater and with the temperature at night falling below zero degrees Celsius, it was badly needed. Though for an 18’x18’ room, it felt inadequate initially, but we had a comfortable sleep at night and in the morning the room didn’t felt all that cold.

There is a seating area inside the room and another outside as well.

Toilet too was fine and with a mat on the floor, felt comfortable to use even in cold temperature.

The attic room had a King sized bed along with a foldable sofa bed, perfect for the 3 friends of ours, staying there.

The attic room was a lot more beautiful though and our second evening was spent there, enjoying each other’s company and of course, the beautiful room. I regret not spending a night there since the morning would have been even more beautiful with the panoramic view from the bed itself.

There is also a Bukhari in attic room, so it shoulder be cozier in winter.

The food at Colonel’s Dacha was delicious. In fact, we had our second dinner on the first night, after being disappointed and left hungry by the food at the supposedly best café in Kasol, Evergreen. The only issue is, the spices, as well as salt, were on the lower side, though that was easily remedied.

Tea was so good that during the course of 2 days we ordered over 30 teas!

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Colonel’s Dacha; it is a perfect place to chill in Kasol. The only issue being that it is located in a narrow valley, so you can’t actually witness sunrise in the morning since it occurs behind the mountains. On the plus side, that means you can sleep in and get up lazily in the morning, something I did on this trip, after a long long time!

Rooms at Colonel’s Dacha are priced between Rs. 1,200 to 3,500 depending on the room and the season. In case more than 2 adults are staying in a room, you will have to shell out Rs. 400 per person extra for it. The above rate is for room only, food is chargeable extra.

BCMTians can get 20% discount on the above rates, while soldiers get 25% discount and ladies serving in the armed forces stay for free!
