Safdarjang's Tomb
Safdarjang's Tomb was built in 1753-1754 by an Abyssinian (Ethiopian) architect, Bilal Mohammed Khan, under the patronage of the then Nawab of Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daulah in the memory of his father Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan popularly known as Safdarjung (1739-54).
Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan was the governor of the province of Awadh under Muhammad Shah (1719-48) and later became his wazir (prime minister).
Beautifully carved from buff-colored sandstone with the intermittent use of red sandstone and marble, Safdarjang's Tomb represent the last phase of Mughal style architecture.
